Getting The Right Travel Insurance For Over 65

Your travel agent may seem the best option to you but it is advisable to browse the net and look at various quotes and look for cheaper alternatives. When you get a competitive price you can even buy online. Do not always make decisions based on cost but examine the details of the policy
  • Trip duration is one detail you would have to look at. Some insurance companies offer 21 days other 31 or 45 days
  • Some policies cover you if you are booked in a hotel and not with relatives or friends.
  • See if the Medicare supplements and other health care cover is enough, if not take up a medial travel insurance to cover costs for medical emergencies and hospital expenditure.
  • For travelers over the age of 65, Medicare does not provide health benefits for travel overseas, except in very limited instances. Supplemental benefits (Medsupps or Medigap) may be affected. In case you have the policy a failure to get an authorization to travel abroad may result in denial of reimbursement if you file a claim.
  • In case of a medical emergency see if you have medical evacuation covered in the plan as this is the most costly and may take $ 5000 or more for an air ambulance.
  • Look at the deductibles/excess you have to pay per claim
  • Check if the medical costs are directly paid to the hospital or else you will have to pay up first and then claim.
  • Some policies offer ski and snow boarding till the age of 68 where as others do not offer winter sports cover.
  • Look for baggage cover and double check with your home insurance policy owner see if you are covered for theft or loss.
Getting travel insurance for over 65 citizens may be difficult but some companies do offer annual travel insurance for over 65. If you find it difficult to obtain travel insurance every time you travel. You can opt for the annual travel policy and be covered for the entire year.
